Chaource in Champagne ... At the gateway to Burgundy, an authentic region to be discovered
Stay at the Cadusia hotel restaurant and you'll find yourself in Chaource, a charming village at the source of the Armance river, in a bocage landscape. World-renowned for its famous ladled A.O.P. cow's milk cheese, Chaource is just 20 kilometres from the first vineyards of Champagne and the first hills of Epineuil in Burgundy. An unmissable wine tourism destination, and a rare one in France. The village also offers visitors an exceptional natural environment in which to relax and enjoy leisure activities. The 14,000-hectare Aumont forest is a magnificent playground for lovers of beautiful walks, horse-riding and cycling. When it comes to cultural heritage, you won't be disappointed with the traditional timber-framed houses of the Aube region, which bear witness to medieval times, and above all the exceptional listed church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which boasts numerous bas-reliefs from different periods, a carved wooden nativity scene gilded in late 16th-century gold, a monumental organ with a sound unique in the world, and above all the most beautiful and strikingly realistic Burial of Jesus, dating from 1515.
Leaving Chaource, there are plenty of places to discover within a 40 km radius: The city of Troyes, a jewel of Champagne culture with its medieval treasures; the Champagne Route with the Reims mountains, the Côte des Blancs, the Marne valley and the Saint-Thierry massif will delight wine experts; the great lakes of the Orient forest for nature lovers; the Mc Arthur Glen and Marques Avenue factory outlets for shopping fans; the Burgundy canal, a waterway lined with beautiful countryside, will be ideal for lovely boat or cycle trips. History enthusiasts will love visiting the town of Tonnerre and the many castles and abbeys that dot our region, ideally located at the gateway to Burgundy.
